The End of Albuquerque...for now

It's 7:30 on a Thursday night and I'm half an hour late getting to bed...but tomorrow starts the crazy trip. Before that, though, we have made the most of our last couple of days in Albuquerque. We're technically back for a few days more, but those are so full of moving that, to me at least, they don't really count as coming back.

Highlights of the End of Albuquerque, Part I:

Celebrating Pioneer Day

Oddly enough, no one actually celebrates Pioneer Day in Albuquerque. Conveniently for us, we just happened to be invited over for dinner with the Feuzs. Thanks! It's worked out quite nicely for us to have them living here. ;)

Personal Going Away Party

When we first moved to New Mexico, my dad called one day to say that KSL was featuring an Albuquerque Restaurant called Tim's Place. It is owned by a man with Down Syndrome (incidentally, he is the only restaurant owner with DS in all of the United States so far). Dad was calling me just because it was Albuquerque and that's where we lived. Turns out, though, that the restaurant isn't just in Albuquerque--it's right around the corner from our apartment. Sweet.

On Thursday, when we had successfully run out of food at home in preparation for moving, we finally made our first visit to Tim's Place as a going away party with our friends.

Megan has most definitely considered Suzan to be her best friend in the last few months, and Harold and Ben are great friends, and I most certainly enjoy my time with Shara and Rebecca. It was fun to have one last visit with all of us together before leaving twon--especially since Shara and Suzan will be gone from Albuquerque before we're back from our trip, so this was our last time to hang out.

 Moving

Have I mentioned yet that we're moving across the country? One of the odd things about having a moving company do all the packing is the complete lack of boxes all over the place. Not that I mind, of course, but it is an odd sensation to know that you're moving and having nothing around that LOOKS like you're moving.

That changed the night that we shifted the storage unit into our living room...within two hours, it all of a sudden looked like we are actually moving.

Our new apartment is going to be roughly double the size of our current apartment, which is delightful. It also includes connections for our washer and dryer. As much as I love the laundromat, requiring three solid hours every other Saturday for Mom to be gone while Dad has to do schoolwork doesn't seem like the most conducive thing to happy children, so we're bringing our own washer and dryer. I admit, I am looking forward to no longer washing my clothes with other people's pet hair.

Haircut!

So, I don't know which side of the camp you're on, but I've gotten a lot of crap from several people lately about how short Megan's hair is. Comments like she looks too much like a boy or I'd better put a bow in her hair or no one is ever going to know that she's a girl. Right.

From my side, I see a little girl who literally dances around the house singing "I LOVE MY HAIRCUT" at the top of her lungs and tells us how pretty she feels at least twice a day, every day. Taking it from that side, I let Megan get her hair trimmed again, back to her cute little pixie cut. Now it's not in her eyes anymore and she still sings about how much she loves her hair.

Works for me.

Heading Out

On Thursday afternoon, we finally loaded all the suitcases that I've spent weeks packing into the van. I am quite impressed with us, really.

Everything is in the van, ready to go, for two weddings, flights, and camping and it doesn't even cover the back window. My husband has some mad arranging skills.

The adventure really starts tomorrow...wish us luck.
