200th Post

In honor of my 200th blog post, I would like to share my day.

I've had a bit of a headache all day, so taking advantage of the fact that I didn't have to go to school, we kept things pretty low-key. I sat on the couch using Chris's laptop (mostly to stay awake) and the girls amused themselves. The longest lasting amusement was the cupboard.

Did you notice the fingers?

After being lazy in the morning and taking a nap in the afternoon, I had hoped my headache would go away and I'd be able to get something done. Not so. My head still hurt after sleeping, so I took up my spot on the couch again and continued to wait it out.

The girls let me know, in their own special ways, that they were discontent with the pattern of the day. Megan threw up on my pants after eating too many goldfish crackers. Jane came out of the playroom with a bottle of mustard, informing me that she had been hungry and now she isn't. Go figure that one.

Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come...

I went into the bedroom to get my phone and--completely without realizing it--fell asleep on my bed for about twenty minutes. No joke, I don't even remember laying down. I woke up when Chris called to tell me he was on his way home. When I came out, this is what I found in the living room.

Uh, yeah. That's parmesan cheese. I know Megan looks guilty here, but really?

Yep. She knows how to get into the fridge. And, apparently, get things off the very top shelf.

Megan was mostly an innocent bystander, although I'm sure she enjoyed the fruits of Jane's labors, too.

Jane spent the next 20 minutes in her bedroom while I gave Megan a bath and attempted to clean up the mess. Until my vacuum died.

Now my living room smells like burnt cheese.

I've been feeling just a little bit sorry for myself this week for not going back to school. I drove past one elementary school and, seeing all the kids out at recess, just about cried. Today, I'm less enthusiastic about being home...

Chris came home with a pizza, gave Jane a good talking-to, and is now working on cleaning up the couch and repairing the vacuum. Bless that man.

Oh Laura! So sad! But I have to admit, I laughed so hard. You have a way of spelling out tragedy in an amusing way. :)

Linus AND Claire can both get in the fridge.... AND it has a lock on it. SIGH. Linus's favorite thing to do (beside getting out his milk sippy and leaving it around only to be picked up later when the milk is sour and warm) is to get out the water bottles and dump them all over the living room carpet and then to try and mop up the mess with kitchen towels. But I must say - the parmesan cheese sounds MUCH worse.

As for being sad about the first day - don't worry, I cried on the first day of school my first year off teaching. My second year I knew I was doing a long term sub for you and this year the same - so it's been easier. But I STILL get sad on the first day of school. It DOES get better though.

Go Chris! I have to admit, since it ISN'T my house, that picture is hilarious.

Oh Laura, it's okay! I totally have days like this. With school back in I've been getting trunky too! I've been thinking about volunteering but don't think I would do much good with a rowdy 1 year old. Maybe we can swap kids sometimes and give each other a chance to do a little teaching? To bad we're not a little closer. (((hugs)))

oh sad... :( I totally have those days way too often sometimes. Its crazy how much trouble they can manage to get in in 2 seconds flat. Sorry about the vacuum. I'm sure the Kirby sellsmen who came to my house would love to sell you his $2600 vacuum. :)

Oh Laura.. you're so good to grab a camera for moments like these.

It's kinda funny to read your blog because we're both sad for the same reason but on opposite sides. Does that make sense? LoL. You wish you were at school and I wish I could up and quit right now. By the time back to school night I finally had a good positive attitude about returning to work... but it was totally shattered on Thursday when I met my class. Let's just say this will be the year that either makes me or breaks me. I'm emotionally exhausted and it's only the 2nd day! AND I'm only part time! YIKES!

Good luck with the transition. I can see how someday I might miss this :)
