200th Post

In honor of my 200th blog post, I would like to share my day.

I've had a bit of a headache all day, so taking advantage of the fact that I didn't have to go to school, we kept things pretty low-key. I sat on the couch using Chris's laptop (mostly to stay awake) and the girls amused themselves. The longest lasting amusement was the cupboard.

Did you notice the fingers?

After being lazy in the morning and taking a nap in the afternoon, I had hoped my headache would go away and I'd be able to get something done. Not so. My head still hurt after sleeping, so I took up my spot on the couch again and continued to wait it out.

The girls let me know, in their own special ways, that they were discontent with the pattern of the day. Megan threw up on my pants after eating too many goldfish crackers. Jane came out of the playroom with a bottle of mustard, informing me that she had been hungry and now she isn't. Go figure that one.

Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come...

I went into the bedroom to get my phone and--completely without realizing it--fell asleep on my bed for about twenty minutes. No joke, I don't even remember laying down. I woke up when Chris called to tell me he was on his way home. When I came out, this is what I found in the living room.

Uh, yeah. That's parmesan cheese. I know Megan looks guilty here, but really?

Yep. She knows how to get into the fridge. And, apparently, get things off the very top shelf.

Megan was mostly an innocent bystander, although I'm sure she enjoyed the fruits of Jane's labors, too.

Jane spent the next 20 minutes in her bedroom while I gave Megan a bath and attempted to clean up the mess. Until my vacuum died.

Now my living room smells like burnt cheese.

I've been feeling just a little bit sorry for myself this week for not going back to school. I drove past one elementary school and, seeing all the kids out at recess, just about cried. Today, I'm less enthusiastic about being home...

Chris came home with a pizza, gave Jane a good talking-to, and is now working on cleaning up the couch and repairing the vacuum. Bless that man.

Bowling for Buzzards

As previously stated, I have been lacking in consistent blogging practices this month. To avoid further overburdening, here are all the cute, entertaining, or otherwise pictures that I want to blog before they are too far gone.

All told, we've had a good summer. Us girls enjoyed a picnic in the back of the car.

We went shopping together many, many times.

Jane and I occasionally try out new adventures while Megan is sleeping. Our most recent attempt is scissors.

Paper only. So far, so good. Jane also likes to build towers out of anything that will stack. Here she found Chris's Rubik's cube collection conveniently within reach.

We also eat a lot. What's summer without treats?

I told you Megan really, really likes watermelon.

I couldn't decide which picture I liked best, so you get all three.

We had a fun playdate with Lisa and her friend Rebecca and all the kids. Megan had her first solo attempt at an apple.

What do you think of the sunscreen hairstyle?

Chris and I still don't have a lot of time with just the two of us. We took advantage of one such moment and hiked up Ensign Peak together. It was windy.

For some reason, Chris's hair didn't get nearly as messed up as mine...

But the view was worth it.

We could even see Chris's work from there.

We enjoyed being together.

Yay for dates!

For Family Home Evening last week we went to Murray City's Police and Fire Safety Fair.

Jane got to sit inside the Ladder Truck,

and got a fire truck tattoo,

we watched a helicopter land,

Megan chilled in the stroller,

and Chris took a work call.

The true highlight of the evening, however, was the swings.

This was Megan's first serious time spent in a swing. She was quite uncertain in the beginning (I love this face!).

She warmed up to it fairly quickly.

Then she loved it.

Ah, pictures of babies in swings comes second only to my enjoyment of pictures of babies sleeping.

Chris took a turn swinging on Sunday. He sported a little more style.

And a little more daring.

Grandma Karrie had a turn, too.

Jane has taken to reading the newspaper while she eats breakfast.

And Megan is tentatively starting to walk. She has taken a few unassisted steps, emphasis on few, but she is more and more confident about walking with help.

Posts to look forward to:
Camping at Silver Lake
Petty 55th Anniversary
Megan's second? ever trip to Aberdeen

Be excited.
